LIGHTWEIGHT ARMOURED TRANSPORTATION
RUNFLAT
Since the prime objective of a runflat system is to provide vehicle control in the event of tire depressurization, and a potential cause for tire deflation on armored vehicles is ballistic attack, simulation testing was conducted to understand the characteristics of Rodgard runflat systems. Testing was performed at Alden Rod & Gun In Alden, NY by Mr. Joe McAdams and Mr. Carl Leas. The outside ambient temperature was 50º F.

The testing used 7.62 x 51 mm ammo shot from a Ruger Mark II at a range of 100 feet. Winchester 150 grain SP core IOC and Military Issue, Nato 180 grain full metal jacket ammunition was used. The 44 Magnum used Winchhester 210 grain hollow point silver tips shot from a Marlin 1894S rifle at a range of 50 feet. Figure 1 below shows the testing area and figure 2 shows the ammunition.

Rodgard runflat systems passed 7.62 mm and 44 Magnum ballistic testing without any loss of structural integrity. Rodgard runflat systems are highly resistant to ballistic attack.
